Hundon Wine Club

On a cold and dark January evening in 2013, a half dozen doughty souls waited outside the village hall to commence our inaugural meeting of the, as yet unnamed, Hundon Wine Club. An enjoyable and rather boozy night ensued since we had expected more people and 12 bottles of wine were purchased!

The following few months numbers remained low, so much so that we relocated to members houses for our meetings. However numbers grew to such an extent that we had 22 people crammed into one member’s kitchen. Since those days our numbers have steadily increased to a workable number and we now have a committee with a treasurer and secretary as we enter the sixth year of existence.

We meet every last Thursday of the month, where we explore around 6 wines and finish off the evening – and wine – with some light supper.

The aims of the club are to demystify the world of wine, to enable members to try wines they might not have considered, to learn about the production methods and what might influence the wine in the bottle, and most of all, to have an enjoyable and social evening with some good wine, food and friends.

We have a healthy calendar of invited speakers from the wine industry as well as our own members, plus several social events such as a Christmas meal, summer barbecue/buffet, and trips out based on wine themes. The club has arranged overseas visits to wine regions in Italy and Spain with more in the planning.
